Beat the Summer Heat with our Beauty Tips!
We are excited for Summer to arrive – and for you to enjoy more leisurely breaks at Custer Park! Warmer temperatures shouldn’t keep you from going out and having fun, but they can get in the way of looking (and feeling) cool and refreshed.
Thankfully, there are things you can do to beat the heat and maintain your summer glow:
Exfoliate and hydrate
Skin care is an essential part of any beauty regimen. During the summer, the best beauty gifts you can give yourself is a high-quality facial scrub, coupled with hydrating products that are suitable for your skin type. Exfoliating helps clear your pores of accumulated dirt and oil, and makes it easier for your skin to absorb the moisture from hydrating creams or lotions. Take note though that while it is ideal to hydrate and moisturize every day, you should only exfoliate about two to three times a week to avoid skin irritation.
Apply (and re-apply) sunscreen generously
Still under skin care, sunscreen (and lip balms with sun protection formula) is a must-have beauty product not just during the summer, but all year-round, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Of course, when summer arrives, you will need to switch to a sunscreen with a higher SPF (Sun Protection Factor). The higher the SPF, the better it is at blocking UVB rays, which cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer. If you can, grab the water-resistant kind, so that you can spend more time in the water without worrying about re-applying.
Mane-tenance is key
Sun exposure, saltwater seas and chlorinated pools can easily dry out and damage your hair. To offset dryness and frizz, use a deep conditioning shampoo or product. You should also stock up on clarifying shampoos, as they efficiently cleanse against impurities and dirt, which accumulate faster in summer due to excessive sweating.
Keep your Summer game face on
Because the summer heat can get pretty intense, you need make-up that will stay on, not melt along. Cream eyeshadows last much longer and are water-resistant, so you avoid the risk of tinted sweat and unappealing clumps. Waterproof make-up is also a good investment, along with a good primer that can hold foundation and prevent it from melting.
Drink up
Drinking the recommended 8 glasses a day is highly beneficial to your health, and there’s no harm in increasing that number when summer arrives. You will sweat more – even during regular activities – so be sure to bring full water bottles with you when you go out.
